We developed a novel regenerative medicine treatment using tissue-engineered oral mucosal epithelial cell sheets to prevent esophageal stricture after ESD endoscopic therapy. Oral mucosal epithelial cell sheets with attached proteins can be harvested from patients by using cell sheet technology. We show that this procedure safely and effectively promotes epithelialization of ulceration and prevents the occurrence of post-esophageal ESD strictures. Such advances in regenerative medicine are important for the development of new endoscopic treatments.
