Experimental food allergy

Mice were sensitized intraperitoneally with 50 μg OVA (grade V; Sigma-Aldrich, Munich, Germany) plus 10 μg cholera toxin (CT; 100B; List Biological Laboratories, Los Angeles, CA, USA) in 150 mL phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) on days 0 and 14. Two weeks after the second sensitization, mice were challenged intragastrically with 100 mg OVA in 200 mL PBS 6 times within 2 weeks. Control mice were sensitized and challenged using only PBS. The rectal temperature was measured before and 30 minutes after the last oral OVA challenge. Mice showing profuse liquid stool within 60 minutes after the final challenge were recorded as diarrhea-positive.
